De Rooy’s Classic Team DAF knocked out of the Dakar Classic.

The DAF 2800 NAT torpedo with starting number 902, knocks the men out of the Dakar Classic. Hugo Duisters and Remco de Vos will no longer start and are therefore out of the Dakar Classics. Two days ago, it was already noticeable that something was wrong with the power of the truck. There was a “knock” in the engine.

The turbo was replaced, but the “knock” remained. Yesterday it was decided to continue with the DAF 2800 NAT and use the Double Head (start number 901) as a back-up. Once back in the bivouac, the valves are adjusted again. That didn’t take away the “knock” either. Further analysis showed that continuing with the DAF 2800 NAT in the rally was no longer possible. So, for Hugo and Remco: Game Over.

For Corné Blok it is really sad. He was scheduled to replace Remco de Vos in the second week of the rally. Now he will not be able to drive the DAF torpedo in a special. “Yes, this is bad luck. I worked all year on this truck and towards the Dakar Classic and now this. But that’s Dakar.” said the disappointed Corné.

The truck will be loaded onto a trailer and Hugo, Remco and Corné will now focus on the technical support of the Double Head. Motorsport can sometimes be very cruel and can drive you crazy but life goes on and so does the rally.
