De Rooy’s Classic Team DAF is having a great time!

Classic Team DAF with the Double Head looks back on a fantastic day. The historic mastodon from the 1980s passed the tenth stage without any problems. It is a marathon stage, so tonight Janus van Kasteren sr., Thijs Heezen and Herman Keijsers have to do without the service truck and mechanics. Not a problem for the gentlemen who, if necessary, are not afraid to roll up the sleeves themselves.

All participants in the Dakar Classics had to start with a short liaison of 59 kilometers.  This was followed by a special stage of 280 kilometers, which in turn consisted of four different stages: three regularity specials and one navigation special. Everyone is on the same route, with the same obstacles and difficulties. So, no “Chicken Way” today to avoid difficult sections for those who are less courageous.

Herman Keijsers was not feeling well yesterday, but today he is completely fit again. During the first part, Herman even got behind the wheel. He talks about today’s special: “Fast tracks at high speed varied with sandy sections. No real dunes, just very small ones. Actually, just right for me. The perfect track for our DAF too. We were the fastest truck again. When we arrived in the bivouac, only a few cars had finished.” By the way, the truck was driven by Thijs Heezen in the second part.

This is how the gentlemen alternate tasks in the cabin. Janus Van Kasteren sr. was allowed to navigate this time. According to Keijsers, Janus is now also very good at this: “The right route, the right speed and in the meantime, he also detects errors in the road book.” Yes, the gentlemen are still having a great time.

The DAF 3300 with starting number 901 also passed today’s special gloriously. According to Keijsers, the truck only needs to be refueled and then everything is ready to drive the second part of the marathon stage tomorrow.

A loop awaits at Shaybah tomorrow, but it won’t be as grubby as it sounds. We don’t need to worry about Messrs. Keijsers, Heezen and Van Kasteren for the time being. They’re going well!
